About juniors

Frequently asked questions

Am I the sort of person you're looking for?

Almost certainly. Our members are young and old, male and female, from many backgrounds. We are a friendly, informal club — not elitist or patronising to anyone new to cycling.

How fit do I need to be?

You should be able to cycle 40 miles over rolling countryside in about three hours. If you're unsure, build up with some shorter rides first — and feel free to contact us for informal guidance.

What sort of bike do I need?

Most members ride lightweight road bikes, but any roadworthy bike is welcome. Mountain bikes and hybrids work fine — you'll just work a bit harder to maintain pace.

What if I can't keep up?

The group always rides at a pace that keeps everyone together — we regroup at junctions and the tops of hills. If you can't continue for any reason, we'll always help you get back safely.

Do you stop during rides?

Yes. The Sunday ride has a café stop around 20 miles in. You can return with a smaller group from there (around 40–45 miles total) or continue to the lunch stop for a 60–80 mile day.

What should I bring?

At minimum: water bottle, some food (energy bars, banana), spare inner tube, tyre levers, pump, cash for the café, ID, and a mobile phone. Lights if there's any chance you'll ride home in the dark.

Do I need to join before riding?

No — we invite prospective members for up to three rides before joining. Just turn up a little before 9am on a Sunday and introduce yourself to the ride leader.
